Dilan obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering in Turkey and later completed a Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Heidelberg University in 2025. She carried out her Master’s thesis at EMBL, where she established a soil-like experimental system to investigate how abiotic factors shape bacterial community structure and interactions. In January 2026, Dilan joined the Stecher Lab as a PhD candidate, where she is developing synthetic biology–based tools to study colonization resistance in the human gut microbiome.
