Mara obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degree in molecular medicine at the University of Tübingen. During her bachelor’s thesis, she investigated how arginine and fumarate pathways contribute to Salmonella expansion within drug-perturbed microbial communities. For the master thesis, she shifted her focus to the human body and explored the impact of exercise on different organs in the context of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis. Mara joined the Stecher lab as PhD candidate in April. Now she focusses on elucidating mechanisms of metabolic interaction networks and gene functions in the spatially interacting microbiome.
Fun fact: Mara likes spending time with friends and enjoys being outdoors in nature.
